10 Awesome Wii Games to look for in 2008

Friday, December 21st, 2007

I was finishing up some shopping yesterday at Best Buy and came across a Guitar Hero 3 for Wii and was totally pumped because they have been sold out every where for the most part. As I was looking around at some other games I thought, man, since Wii launch I have played some pretty sweet games (Excite Truck, Super Paper Mario, Mario Strikers Charged), and some awesome instant classics (Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy, RE4, Guitar Hero 3). With Christmas closing in and the new year close behind I started thinking about what 2008 is going to bring all us Wiitards. After doing some research I compiled a list of 10 games that will be definitely going into my collection.

Nyko’s Wii Zapper Alternative Supposedly Awesome, but Worth $544.44?

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

nyko perfect shotNyko is releasing a “zapper” of their own, and according to IGN it is better than Nintendo’s Wii Zapper. Nyko’s Perfect Shot is “Better than the Zapper in every respect. Trigger is tighter, more tactile. Easier to aim thanks to one-handed design”. Even though I haven’t had my hands on the Nyko Perfect Shot myself I would have to say that I would much rather play with a pistol than a shotgun like two-handed zapper. It is strange and unfortunate that Nintendo would be shown up by a 3rd party accessory maker. Especially when they already have the perfect design for a zapper.

Activision Bent Over by Mono

Friday, December 14th, 2007

Two days ago, on December 11th, 2007, Activision had a class-action lawsuit filed against the company due to “deceptive and unlawful conduct.”

The whole issue stems from the Wii version of Guitar Hero III putting out only mono sound, when advertisements for the game claim it supports Dolby Pro Logic II. Even though Activision released a statement on 12/6 saying that it would replace discs beginning in early 2008, that didn’t stop the main plaintiff of the case, Samuel Livingston of San Diego from filing the suit two days ago.

Downgrading the Photo Channel to 1.0 to keep MP3 support

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

In a quick follow up to our recent post on the Photo Channel update we have found that you can downgrade if you think that it is totally lame that there is no more MP3 support. Here is a quick guide on downgrading the photo channel from Nintendo. Word on the streets is that this only works on Wiis purchased before Decemeber 2007.

Photo Channel Update

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

As I am sure you have probably noticed in the past 24 hours, your Wii has probably started glowing. That means there’s an update available, of course. In case you haven’t read it or heard it anywhere else, the update this time is somewhat negligible but will nonetheless be appreciated by some. Yesterday the Photo Channel 1.1 went live over our series of tubes and is now ready for user consumption.

The main points of interest in this channel update are:

  • Personalize your Wii Menu by making one of your favorite digital images from an SD memory card as the Photo Channel icon.
  • While dropping MP3 support, the new channel update will allow users to use AAC files, which are generally higher quality.
  • Random song playback is now available

To get the updated photo channel, you must first update your Wii Shop channel. Anyone buying new Wii consoles should reportedly have the Photo Channel 1.1 already loaded when they open the box.
